Matatū set to make history as 10,000 tickets sold for opening match, but we’re not done yet

Matatū is set for a special afternoon of rugby tomorrow, with 10,000 tickets sold so far for Saturday’s clash against Chiefs Manawa, and ticket sales are still climbing.

It’s a milestone moment for our club and for women’s rugby in Aotearoa as we open our 2026 Super Rugby Aupiki season.

The momentum, the support, and all the conversations around this game have been more than we ever could have imagined, but we’re not stopping here – there’s still more to play for.

Ticket sales of that scale puts the match within reach of breaking, if not doubling the current attendance record for a standalone domestic women’s rugby fixture in New Zealand. That record sits at 4,800, set at the 2024 Super Rugby Aupiki final between Blues Women and Chiefs Manawa at Eden Park.

With kick-off set for 4.05pm at One New Zealand Stadium, the message to fans is simple: be there, be part of something special, and help us make history.

For many of our players, the chance to run out in front of a crowd like this at home is something they haven’t experienced before, and now, it’s within reach.

There are still plenty of tickets available, and every person through the gates will help shape what this day becomes. Not just a number on paper, but a moment that reflects how far the women’s game has come, and where it’s heading.

We can’t wait to show Christchurch, Aotearoa and the world our brand of rugby as we open our 2026 season, but we need you there in the stands to help bring it to life.

Something special is building here. A stadium filling with people who want to back our team, support women's rugby, and show what happens when a community gets behind its own.

All that’s left now is to show up.

Keep the momentum going. Tickets are available here.
