Matatū welcomes FreshChoice partnership for 2026 season

Matatū is proud to welcome FreshChoice as an official partner for the 2026 season, strengthening a growing connection across the South Island rugby community.

The expanded partnership builds on FreshChoice’s existing relationship with the Crusaders and reflects a shared commitment to supporting high performance rugby and the continued growth of the women’s game.

Matatū Commercial and Marketing Manager Sammy Dawes says the alignment felt natural from the outset.

FreshChoice has a genuine connection to communities across the South Island, and that’s something that really matters to us as a team. Their support of Matatū shows a clear belief in where women’s rugby is heading and helps us continue creating opportunities for our players while inspiring the next generation.
— Sammy Dawes - Commercial and Marketing Manager

Since its inception, Matatū has represented the best of South Island women’s rugby – building a team that plays with pride, connects deeply with its communities, and continues to grow the game at every level.

FreshChoice’s expanded involvement signals a continued investment in that journey.

FreshChoice Executive General Manager Tim Cartwright says the decision to extend the partnership was an easy one.

We’ve loved being part of the Crusaders environment and are equally excited to support Matatū. Both teams represent resilience, connection and a strong sense of community – values that align closely with FreshChoice. Supporting Matatū is a natural next step for us and an important part of backing the growth of women’s sport across the South Island.
— Tim Cartwright - Executive General Manager

Throughout the 2026 season, FreshChoice will continue its popular fan activation, with the FreshChoice phone call returning to give supporters the chance to win $1000 to spend at their local store.

The partnership reflects a shared belief in the role rugby plays in bringing people together – and the impact it can have in inspiring future generations.
