Martha Mataele

Date of Birth: 9 July 1999
Position: Wing
Provincial Union: Canterbury

Martha Mataele joined the Matatu squad off the back of an electric season for Canterbury in 2022. Mataele managed to score a try in every single game of the season, helping lead her team to another FPC title. Mataele also played a huge role in helping her club team Christchurch beat University in the club final.

Martha’s 2023 Aupiki Season was definitely one to remember, with two tries standing out. Firstly, in round against the Blues, Mataele got onto the end of a perfectly directed cross-field kick from Rosie Kelly to touch down athletically in the corner. Secondly, in the Grand Final, she intercepted a long pass and ran 70 metres on an injured calf to put daylight between Matatū and the Chiefs Manawa.

In 2023, Martha laced up the boots alongside her sister Atlanta Lolohea for Matatū, winning Aupiki together in the latter's debut season. Mataele is also married to former Crusader and Western Force player Manasa Mataele.
