Laura Bayfield

Laura Bayfield returns for another season with Matatū after continuing her rapid rise through New Zealand rugby. The athletic lock made an immediate impact in her debut Aupiki campaign in 2024, earning a reputation for her work rate, physicality, and lineout presence. 

Originally debuting in the Farah Palmer Cup with Tasman before moving to Canterbury, Laura was selected for the inaugural Black Ferns XV squad in 2023 and has since progressed to full Black Ferns honours in 2025. Her consistent performances for Matatū and Canterbury saw her earn international selection and a place in New Zealand’s Rugby World Cup squad. 

Off the field, Laura serves as a Captain in the New Zealand Army — a reflection of the leadership, discipline, and professionalism she brings to the Matatū environment.
