Amy du Plessis

Amy du Plessis is one of the leading midfielders in New Zealand rugby and a key figure within the Matatū and Black Ferns environments. Known for her speed, defensive strength, and powerful ball-running ability, du Plessis has played a major role in Matatū’s success since joining the club for the inaugural Super Rugby Aupiki season in 2022.
Born in South Africa before moving to New Zealand at a young age, Amy progressed through the Southland, Otago, and Canterbury pathways before making her Black Ferns debut in 2022. Later that year, she was part of the Black Ferns Rugby World Cup-winning squad and has since established herself as a regular on the international stage. 
Following another outstanding Super Rugby Aupiki campaign, Amy was named Matatū’s 2025 Aoraki Player of the Year and was also recognised as a finalist for Sky Super Rugby Aupiki Player of the Year.
