Two New Faces in Round Two Squad

Here we go team, Matatū v Hurricanes Poua. A Saturday showdown at Sky Stadium in the capital. It’s a huge one and we’re prepped and ready. 

Matatū have named the 23 women to take the field for Round 2 of Super Rugby Aupiki 2024. Kick off is 4.35pm. 

You’re looking at an unchanged forwards pack from Round 1. Pip Love, Georgia Ponsonby and Amy Rule bring huge strength and experience to the front row, as will Atlanta Lolohea, Marcelle Parkes and Moomooga Palu when they get called up. 

Laura Bayfield will pick up her second-ever Super Rugby cap on Saturday, starting alongside Emma Dermody at 4 and 5. Stacey Niao (debut) and Holly Wratt-Groeneweg sit sideline ready to bring in fresh legs and energy. 

Alana Bremner once again captains the side from blindside joined by Kendra Reynolds at openside. Di Hiini starts at halfback with Maia Joseph ready to slot in after making her Matatū debut last week. 

Rosie Kelly started at fullback last week versus the Blues but moves into first five this week, a position she nailed in the 2023 season.  

Watch out again for Martha Mataele and Winnie Palamo on the left and right wing respectively. They will light things up given half an opportunity or a millimetre gap in the Poua defensive line. Palamo was fan-voted Player of the Match in Round 1 – and on debut – how good. 

Liv McGoverne started at 10 in Round 1 but loves to the centre this week alongside Grace Brooker. Chey Robins-Reti returns to the side at fullback for her first start of the season. She’ll look to control things from the rear with safe hands and a cool head. 

Cheyenne Cunningham debuted last week and will make a huge impact off the bench when called upon, as will debutant Charlotte Woodman.
